In a statement posted on its facebook page, the club representatives said: "We are sad to announce the passing of Andy Hill, founder member and club secretary, who sadly died on Friday. Our love goes out to Andy's family at this difficult time.

"Please refrain from posting anything regarding Andy passing on social media as per request of his family. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter."

A Kent Poice spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to a report of a sudden death of a man in his 40s at an address in Eastchurch at 8.10pm on 16 January.

"The death is being treated as non-suspicious and officers will investigate the circumstances on behalf of the coroner.

"Due to previous police contact with the man, the Independent Police Complaints Commission was informed, as is mandatory.

"The IPCC has passed it back to the force to review internally and it would therefore be inappropriate to comment further."
