A prisoner recently transferred to a Sheppey prison was found dead days after saying he wanted to take his life.

Idris Habib had been moved to HMP Swaleside from HMP Pentonville in north London, where he complained of being attacked and bullied by other inmates.

An inquest into his death is due to take place later this year, but a hearing today heard details surrounding his death.

A pre-inquest review heard the 22-year-old stayed on three different wings at Swaleside, settling at B Wing, where he knew two other inmates.

He was found in his cell in November with a ligature around his neck.

The hearing heard Mr Habib had warned the prison feeling suicidal two days before his death.

Habib's family attended the hearing and asked for the inquest to present a full record of when the prisoner rang his emergency cell bell in the days leading up to his death.

The inquest, due to be held before a jury, is expected to start in October or November and may last up to a week.
