AN INVESTIGATION is underway after four suspected arson attacks in the same street in a Kent town.

The fires, which broke out in Sheerness, destroyed an electrician's van and tools and a Scout group's waste paper collection on a trailer early on Saturday morning.

Residents tried to tackle the trailer and transit van fires in St George's Avenue before two fire crews arrived.

Police on their way to the scene spotted paper alight in the petrol cap of a Ford Fiesta outside St George's Court and used the patrol car extinguisher to put out the fire.

The crew also spotted a blaze in a wheelie bin outside the Londis store in St George's Avenue.

Police are now checking CCTV camera footage from outside the shop and have appealed for any information about the incidents reported just before 6am.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 01795 419182 or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
