A pub's fun day has raised more than £1,000 for an Island children's trust.

The Coppice pub in Fourth Avenue, Eastchurch, held the event on Saturday in support of the Dannyboy Trust (DBT), which was set up in memory of fallen Sheppey soldier Daniel Holkham.

Daniel, 19, was killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan last March.

The DBT aims to support children's clubs and organisations which offer fun, sport, education and life skills to Sheppey youngsters.

At the fun day, there was a raffle, auction, karaoke, barbecue and games and it raised £1,309.94.

Andy Saunders and Rob Sharp also helped raise money by having their hair shaved off.

Landlady Teresa Summers said: "It was a great success and we are very pleased with how much we raised - it was a brilliant day."

Mrs Summers, who runs the pub with her husband Peter, thanked everyone who supported the event and Andy and Julie Saunders, Rob and Barbara Collins, Michael Jones, Julie Preston, Mario Zborowski, Ian Fidler and Fred Cozens for all their help.
