Halfway House regulars have signed up to take part in next year’s London Marathon.
A group of 10 runners, a mixture of experienced and rookie entrants who call themselves the Green Milers, are aiming to compete in April’s race.
Between them they are hoping to raise a minimum of £20,000 for Whizz-Kidz, a charity which supports disabled children.
Monthly fundraisers will be held at the pub throughout the year, starting on Saturday, August 29, with a charity car wash in the car park from 10am to noon.
From 7pm on Thursday, September 3, an auction night will take place at the venue’s Taste of Portugal restaurant.
Sarah Lewry, a member of Halfway House staff and organiser of the charitable effort, said: “I’ve done the London Marathon for Whizz-Kidz before and they asked if I would put a team together for next year.
“They gave me 10 marathon places, which are quite hard to come by.
“I can’t wait. It’s a massive challenge to raise £20,000 but the whole community’s involved and everybody’s been really generous with their support so far.”
