Lane closed on Sheppey Crossing by police to protect stricken vehicle

Delays have been building after a lane on the Sheppey Crossing was closed by police, who say a lorry had fallen on its side.

The Maidstone-bound traffic was queuing back to Cowstead Corner after the inside lane had to be coned off.

A car appeared to have broken down at the top of the crossing but police say it was a "small lorry on its side".

A police spokesman said they were called at 7.21am to a report of a "small lorry falling onto its side on the A249".

He added: "Officers are at the scene. The driver has been taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

"A road closure will be in place while the vehicle is recovered."
