Generous, big-hearted and with a wonderful sense of humour.
That’s how a mum has described her former DJ son who has passed away after a long illness.
Mark Baldock, who had been part of Sheppey’s radio station BRFM since its inception, died at his home in St James Close, Warden Bay, on Saturday, October 26.
The 42-year-old had first fallen ill in June 2007, when he collapsed from acute pancreatitis.
After that, he suffered with diabetes and had been unable to return to work, although he had hoped to.
The cause of his death has been given as a cardiac arrest, which was caused by a rupture in a resulting cyst on his pancreas.
Despite being born with one hand, Mr Baldock was a qualified electrician and after completing his apprenticeship, he worked at the Sheppey prison cluster.
He also went on to gain further qualifications in refrigeration, heating and plumbing to do installations and repairs at the prisons.
His mum Sylvia Mead, 67, of Queenborough Road, Halfway, said: “Nothing stopped Mark.
“He always had a ready smile and never complained about his illness or pain.
“He would do anything for anybody and was a genuinely nice person.
“Mark had a wonderful sense of humour and was the most generous, big-hearted person you could wish to come across.”
BRFM station manager Karen Day said: “Mark was part of the station since the beginning.
“After he stopped his shows he was involved on the road show crew and in all aspects of the station.
“He was a great presenter and he will be remembered.
“All at BRFM send their sympathies and condolences to his family.”
As well as his mum, Mr Baldock also leaves his dad Keith, a director of BRFM, fiancee Jane Morris, daughter Charissa, step-daughter Rebecca, grandson Kyron and brother Peter.
His funeral will be on Tuesday at 11am at the Garden of England Crematorium in Bobbing.
