The winner of a raffle organised after a charity collection tin was stolen is being sought.
Islanders were outraged last month when a Help for Heroes’ (H4H) pot was taken from Queenborough Social Club.
There was around £150 in there which had been raised by members through donations and the sale of wristbands.
To make up for the theft, which was described as “despicable”, club steward John Scott decided to raffle an H4H hoodie to get back some of the cash – and they have ended up raising more than double what was stolen. The raffle was drawn at the club in North Road, Queenborough, last Sunday, although the person with winning ticket number 021200 has yet to claim their prize.
The raffle raised £321 for the charity, which helps the rehabilitation and welfare of injured members of the Armed Forces.
Mr Scott’s wife Fiona, who works at the club, said: “We had complete strangers coming in just to buy tickets.
“We would like to thank everyone for their generosity.”
Police are still hunting a scrawny-looking white man in connection with the theft.
He is aged between 18 and 20, with short, fair hair.
Five collection tins have been stolen from various locations across Sheppey since last May.
