Police are appealing for information after a cash machine was stolen from a supermarket by ram raiders.
Officers were called to the Morrisons store in Queenborough on the Isle of Sheppey after reports that a digger had been used to take the machine from the wall.
They also found a Ford Transit flatbed van at the scene, while the thieves used an Audi A4 to escape.
Following a high-speed chase with police, the car later crashed into a roundabout at junction 3 of the M2 motorway, and three men fled from the wreckage.
Meanwhile a 38-year-old man from Essex has been arrested following the incident and is being held by the police.
Det Insp James Derham from the Serious and Organised Crime Unit said the offence took place in the early hours of Saturday, September 16.
He said: “The industrial machinery used to prise the cash point from the wall was left at the scene and we have officers working to establish if anything was taken.
“Although this offence happened in the early hours, we are appealing for anyone with information who may not have yet come forward.
“We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the incident or anyone who saw the vehicle driving at speed along the A249 towards the M2.”
Anyone with information should call 101 and quote reference number 16-0092 or call Crimestoppers Anonymously on 0800 555111.
