An annual fun day in aid of a schoolboy who suffered a severe brain injury in an accident has raised its biggest amount yet.

The grand total of £4,509.70 was made at this year’s Smiles4Miles, which took place at Sheppey Rugby Club in Lower Road, Minster, on Saturday.

It will be used by Miles Rogers’s family to pay for any equipment or therapies needed to help with his rehabilitation.

The 14-year-old was left wheelchair-bound after he was hit by a car outside the club in October 2011.

This year’s fundraiser included rodeo bull and pony rides, an assault course, inflatables, a raffle plus performances from Helen K School of Dance.

There was also ice creams, candy floss, glitter tattoos, tarot card readings by Suzy Easton-Wellard, a barbecue and sand art for sale.

A representative from the charity Make Them Smile also presented Miles with a framed, signed Manchester United football club shirt on the day.

Miles’s mother, Kelly Rogers, 35, said: “It went really, really well.

“Thanks to Windsor Furniture for the raffle prizes they donated which were a mountain bike and a helicopter ride voucher and FabriTec Furniture which supplied the trailer for the music. Also, thank you to everyone who helped and who came along.”
