Part of Halfway Houses Primary School was forced to close today after its roof was targeted by thieves.

Staff had to turn away 60 reception year youngsters because metal had been taken over the weekend, causing water to flood the building.

A classroom, corridor and a covered outdoor walkway were affected.

A spokesman said they were waiting to hear from Kent County Council to find out what could be done to resolve the problem.

Two years ago the school, in Southdown Road, Halfway, had lead stolen from its roof.
