School’s first sports day is a real winner

The first sports day at the Island’s newest school has been hailed a success.

Eastchurch Primary’s St Clement’s site held the event last Wednesday at its grounds in Leysdown Road, Leysdown.

Children took part in mini hurdles, slalom, batting and bowling and jumping in the rungs of a ladder.

Competitors were timed to see how fast they could complete the challenges.

The youngsters were divided into houses with Spitfire emerging as the overall winners. It took place on the playground as the school has to wait a year for the field to be properly seeded.

Head teacher Michelle Crowe said: “Considering it was on the playground, it went really well. The behaviour of the children was excellent and it was well supported by parents and coupled with lovely weather it added up to a really nice day.”
