It’s not quite Rydell High – but that didn’t deter college students from pulling out all the stops to support the Blue Town Heritage Centre.

Around 90 students taking business and event marketing courses at Canterbury College Swale Campus have been fundraising for the centre.

An open day was held at the site off Bridge Road, Sheerness, themed around the movie Grease.

As well as a ‘shake, raffle and roll’, there were stalls to help potential pupils choose a course and others to help with employability, career opportunities and further education options.

About 60 people went along and, added to funds collected at a sponsored walk and afternoon tea last year, raised almost £300.

Jenny Hurkett, who run the centre in High Street, Blue Town, said it will go towards the educational resource room in the building.

“We are so grateful,” she said. “It’s great they value what we are doing.”

College staff Anita Goymer and Anne Minett, who organised the fundraisers, thanked sponsors Tesco, Stadium Sports, Daisy Chains florist, Cash Flo, the fire service, Army, the University of Kent and Sheppey FM.
