The Isle of Sheppey Sailing Club has gone online in a bid to win a £200,000 national competition.
Members of the club have made a 29-second clip as part of Doritos’ King of Ads competition – and they need readers’ help to win.
It features Sheppey firefighter Jim Ashby cycling by the sea and getting distracted by a girl – played by Jess Day.
Jim is cycling along with a trolley full of Doritos crisps before he spots Jess and ends up head over heels in the water.
The team has called the advert Bags of Pulling Power.
Although there are more than 2,000 entries in the competition, the club is hopeful they can get into the top three, where they will have a chance of winning £200,000.
If they win the competition, the prize money has been pledged to improving disabled facilities at the sailing club, which is based in Marine Parade, Sheerness. Money would also go to the Bone Cancer Research Trust.
The video is available to view on the YouTube website and the more hits it gets, the more chance they have of being in the final three.
If they are in the final, they will need as many people as possible to vote for it and if successful, the advert could be shown on television. On Saturday, May 29, the three finalists will be announced and then there will be a month of voting.
As well as Jim and Jess, Brian Hughes, Tim Bell, James Bell, and Mike and Yvonne Simmons were involved in producing the clip and they had the support of all the club members.
Honorary life rear commodore of the club Tim Bell thought it would be great to enter the competition after seeing it advertised on a Doritos packet.
He said: “I thought it would be lovely to have a go and put the Island on the map.
“It’s a long shot but I think it’s a brilliant entry – you have got to have confidence in your product.
“It would be great to see Sheppey in an advert on TV.”
