A prison officer with a talent for cooking has scooped £1,000 after appearing on a reality TV show.

Daniel Bowman, from Minster, won the prize in Sunday’s episode of Come Dine With Me on Channel 4.

In the Times Guardian earlier this month, we reported how 35-year-old Mr Bowman was appearing on the show against contestants from Sittingbourne, Faversham and Gillingham.

Each of the four strangers hosts a dinner party and after being scored by each of the contestants, Mr Bowman’s was declared the best and he was awarded his prize.

The other contestants, Katie, Stuart and Claire, all got 18 points but Mr Bowman was well in the lead with 23.

Mr Bowman’s menu was cream of carrot and kiwi soup followed by a main course Tournedos Rossini with Caesar salad and double fried fries finished off by a praline liqueur cheese cake.

The heavy metal fan finished off his party with a dip in his hot tub – although not all the contestants were keen to jump in.

Mr Bowman, who was put forward to appear on the show by his wife Tash, 31, had been described as cocksure in the preview to the show and admitted he did come across as very confident.

During the show there was lots of sniping between the two female contestants which came to a head during the last dinner party.

But Mr Bowman said he was enjoying himself so much, he hadn’t really noticed how bad it was until he watched the show.

The guests made some positive comment about Mr Bowman’s culinary skills and it was clear from early on he was in with a good chance of victory.

Claire said the soup was pleasing on the eye and the palate and food snob Stuart said he gave a fantastic performance in the kitchen and was a genuinely warm host,

Katie also praised his cooking, adding that the main course was fantastic.

Stuart finished off by saying Mr Bowman had Gary Linekar’s ears, Benny Hill’s face but definitely Gordon Ramsey’s skills in the kitchen.

As a huge Gordon Ramsey fan, Mr Bowman took this as a compliment.

On the show when he found out he had won, Mr Bowman said: “It’s absolutely awesome I won it, it’s fantastic and I deserved it.”

Mr Bowman, who lives with his wife and daughter Davina, seven, has spent his winnings on a corner sofa and a new fridge.

The ingredients were all bought locally and Mr Bowman wanted to thank Shaun and Steve O’Meara of O’Meara’s Butchers in Minster and the Brambledown Farm Shop.

Mr Bowman added: “It’s quite strange seeing yourself on the TV and seeing how cocky you come across.

“People who know me know I’m quite a nice fellow.

“I was very pleased to win it.”
