The Sheppey Crossing has been closed this afternoon after a vehicle broke down on top of the bridge.

Kent Police closed the A249 coming on to the Island after it received reports at 4.12pm.

It will remain shut until the vehicle is recovered while traffic is being diverted via the Kingsferry Bridge.

It is not clear when the crossing will reopen.
