Youngsters at Sheppey Sea Cadets are walking on water after being named the best unit.

They have been awarded the Stephenson Trophy for being the top unit in the Southern area for the second time in three years.

The Bartons Point headquarters for TS Kent off Marine Parade, Sheerness, was visited by Captain Mark Windsor RN, Captain of the Sea Cadet Corps, to recognise the unit’s success out of all 71 units.

Capt Windsor and other specially invited guests including the Mayor of Swale Adrian Crowther and Mayor of Queenborough Carol Champ, were treated to a tour of classes and the Unit buildings.

The Captain was also asked to make a number of presentations at the end of the evening, including promotion to Cadet Petty Officer for Daniel Foreman.

The first clasp to the Cadet Forces Medal for Chief Petty Officer Fiona Louch, denoting eighteen years of service to the Corps, was also presented.

Capt Windsor said “I really enjoyed my visit to TS Kent and in particular meeting all of the cadets, volunteers and supporters of the unit.

"I am very impressed with what I have seen here and it is clear that TS Kent stands out as an excellent unit of which all concerned should be very proud.”
