A teenager has won an apprenticeship with an Upchurch travel firm after writing an emotive application.
In doing so, Nathan Charles, 19, became the 700th trainee to be placed through Kent County Council’s Kent Employment Programme (KEP).
He has landed a position with Spirit of Remembrance, which specialises in bespoke tours for people with an interest in world wars.
The company’s managing director, Nikki Archer-Waring, said Nathan’s eye-catching attention to detail won her over when he applied for the job.
She said: “When we received Nathan’s application, we were thrilled to see his enthusiasm shine through in it.
“We are really pleased with Nathan and how he has picked the job up so quickly.”
The company arranges tours for a wide range of customers, from people looking into their ancestry to regimental groups.
It has provided Nathan, who is studying business administration, a chance to combine his interest in history with a varied apprenticeship opportunity.
The Sheppey resident, of Halfway, said: “I really enjoyed history at school so I am finding this so interesting.”
