Sheppey United will be returning to the Co-Steel Ground in Halfway as they embark on ambitious plans.

The club have decided to leave last season’s home venue Co-op Sports Ground, where they were playing as the now disbanded AFC Sheppey, after finding a venue which they feel matches their aspirations.

Sheppey director Aidan Christie said: "If we are going to progress the way we want, then we are going to need a ground with lights and a stand for the standard we are heading for.

"Unfortunately, the Co-op ground isn’t big enough and I don’t think it would get planning permission, so we’ve decided to work with Ernie Batten at his ground. He already has permission for lights in the future and we can develop the ground together.

"It’s a sort of homecoming for the club, which used to play at the ground and for the foreseeable future we want to develop the ground and hopefully as the seasons go by, put in the floodlights and a stand."

United will be playing in Division 1 of the Kent County League next season, having recently re-formed and have hopes to quickly progress.
