Police have revealed that the person who died after being hit by a train on Saturday was a woman in her 40s from Sittingbourne.

British Transport Police say the woman died after the incident at 8.32am at Sheerness station.

Officers were called to the scene after receiving reports of a body on the line.

The woman has not yet been formally identified and the death is not being treated as suspicious.

The station was closed while police officers and paramedics were on the scene.

Train services were resumed by about 11.30am.

A BTP spokesman said: “Upon attendance officers discovered the body of a woman, believed to be in her 40s and from Sittingbourne.

“She appears to have suffered injuries consistent with being struck by a train.

“The incident is being treated as non-suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
