The final design for a proposed skate park in Sheerness will be decided by the end of the month.

Sheerness Enhancement Association for Leisure (SEAL) is behind the plan at Beachfields Park, off Bridge Road, Sheerness.

A public viewing was held on Tuesday and Wednesday last week by Ray Featherstone at Sheerness County Youth Centre for young people to have their say.

The four artist impressions, by companies Wheelscape, Maverick, 1st Skate Parks and Freestyle, were displayed and visitors could leave comments about which one they preferred.

Each proposal would cost around £200,000 plus VAT to achieve and the next step is for the SEAL trustees to select one and then apply for funding.

Chris Foulds, of SEAL, said: “We need to look at each one and not just how pretty it is going to look but how it is going to fit in and how they are going to construct it.

“We have done all the groundwork and I am now happy now to take it forward to the council. All we want from them is permission which we’ve got in principle.”

Once a design has been chosen, the trustees plan to discuss it with Graham Tuff, Swale council’s green spaces manager.

Hopes for an outdoor summer film festival in Beachfields Park may have been dashed, but there is a chance they could be revived for later this year.

SEAL applied for funding for the projection equipment from Awards For You but a couple of technical errors meant it had to be re-sent.

Mr Foulds said they could hear back in time for September or possibly in time for some scary Halloween screenings.

He added SEAL had met with the council’s licensing and environmental departments who had agreed to testing out the idea.

Meanwhile, the group is set to sign a seven-year lease on an office in Neptune Terrace, Sheerness, to be used for displays of upcoming projects.
