Still no start date for new supermarket

There is still no confirmed date for the start of works on a new Morrisons store in Sheppey.

Last week we reported how the developer behind £30million plans to bring the supermarket to Neats Court, LXB Retail Properties, assured residents it was within days of getting under way.

A week later and Giles Haywood, of LXB, said the situation is the same as last week and was unable to give a definitive start date.

He said: “All I can say is the same as last week, there is a lot to do and we are trying to do it as quick as possible.”

He added said the company was finalising legal arrangements that need to be sorted before workmen can get out on site.

Work had been due to start more than a month ago leading to concerns from local residents.

The transformation of the land at Queenborough was delayed after rival developer Citygrove launched a legal bid to over turn the project which was eventually withdrawn at the start of August.

The plans for Neats Court have attracted interest from DIY giant B&Q, shoe retailer Brantano and home furnishings shop B&M stores, a KFC fast food restaurant, a petrol station and a family pub.
