A disabled swing which had been reported stolen is back in its rightful place in New Road Playing Fields.

Police were contacted on October 15 when it was noticed the specialised plastic seat was missing. But it wasn’t a thief who was to blame for its removal...

Swale council confirmed a contractor, on noticing the swing had been vandalised, took it home to repair it. It has since been reinstalled.

A council spokesman said: “We can confirm the disabled swing has now been repaired and is back up and running in New Road.”

Linda Munday, 46, of Hope Street, Sheerness, instigated the original campaign to have the seat added to New Road’s existing play equipment as her grandson Sean, aged six, is severely disabled.

She contacted STG when it was reported stolen to appeal for its return.

She admitted to being “furious” about the misleading theft claims, adding: “It’s really great the swing has been put back. Sean’s back at the park now, enjoying it again.”

After it was reported the swing had been stolen, Island mum
Kelly Rogers, who runs the Smiles4Miles appeal, and John Williams, owner of Laywell Flooring in Sheerness, offered to stump-up £500 to replace it.

Mrs Munday said: “I’d still like to thank Kelly and John for their very generous offer.”
