Land in Queenborough Road in Halfway on Sheppey left unsold despite two bids in online auction

A strip of land next to a residential street, marketed as a potential plot for building two homes, has not been sold despite bids being made for it during an online auction.

The land in Queenborough Road, next to Uplands Way in Halfway had a guide price of £9,950.

Auction House put the 500 sq m plot up for sale on Monday, March 10, at 1pm.

The land had a guide price of £9,950 and was freehold with an immediate exchange.

It was described as being in a “highly coveted location” and was in one of Kent’s “most sought after neighbourhoods”.

The listing also says the prospective buyer could potentially build two “dwellings” on it – but only if planning permission is achieved.

It also suggests that the gross external area (GEA) of each home would be 140 sq m, plus space for parking.

“Purchasers are deemed to rely on their own enquiries with regard to any possible development potential for this individual plot in respect of planning and any other consents or rights over the land, but these details show an artist’s impression of how a development on this site could look subject to planning application being approved by relevant local authority," it said.

The online auction ended the following day (March 11) at 2pm.

There was a total of 19 watchers and two official bids – one at £9,950 and another at £10,200.

However, the plot was left unsold as it failed to meet the reserve price.

It is not yet known if it will be relisted at a future auction date.

In February last year, KentOnline reported on how residents in the area were left “frightened” after discovering their roads and driveways were put up for sale without prior notice.

Uplands Way and The Rise in Halfway had been listed on Rightmove for £2,500 by an unknown person.

It prompted concerns among neighbours that if purchased parking charges and other tolls could be implemented along the streets.

But Kent County Council (KCC) ruled this out and confirmed anyone who purchases the land will “not be able to alter or develop it in any way”.

The listing has since been taken down by the agent.
