A coastal hotspot has been forced to close after being vandalised once again.
Sheppey Leisure Complex has announced its popular paddling pool, at Beachfields in Sheerness, will shut its doors until it can be fixed.
It was attacked at about 2.20am today by vandals who broke part of the site’s fence on the pool’s boundary.
A spokesman for the centre said: “We would like to express the importance of this area to the community, and are disappointed that it is continuously a target of vandalism and destruction.
“Our team are currently working on fixing the damage caused and clearing up the smashed glass and other debris.
“If you know any information about what has happened, please contact the police.”
The pool is planned to reopen on Sunday.
However, it is not the first time the pool has been targeted by thugs having been filled with glass and paint back in May.
The facility was shut for two days after staff discovered the mess.
A spokesman for Swale council added they are “disheartened” to hear the area had been attacked.
“We are working to make repairs and clear up following vandalism which took place last night.
“The site has been secured and we are working hard to have it back open and operational again as soon as we can.
“We are incredibly disheartened that there are those who have decided to vandalise the paddling pool.
“It is popular with many families in the community - especially now during the height of the summer holidays.”
Kent Police is urging anyone with information to contact 01795 419119, quoting reference 11-0110.
The Island has also experienced a number of other vandalism-related incidents so far this year.
Cancer patient Keith Larking, 64, missed a hospital appointment at Medway after yobs trashed his car in an act of revenge in Minster last month.
A duck was also stoned to death in Queenborough at the end of July – just weeks after a factory worker had her car tyres slashed after somebody had deliberately put a screwdriver through them.
