A violent burglar has been jailed for more than 10 years after he stabbed a man in the shoulder and punched a woman in the face after breaking into their home.
Gary Foy, 31, of Botany Close, Sheerness, was jailed on Thursday after pleading guilty to aggravated burglary, unlawful wounding, grievous bodily harm without intent, fraud and racially aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress.
Maidstone Crown Court heard how Foy broke into the flat in Laurel House, Short Street, Sheerness, around 9pm on Monday, January 8, and demanded money from two people inside.
He knifed Michael Bennett in the shoulder and punched Samantha Caulfield in the face causing "significant" injuries after demanding money.
After stealing Mr Bennett's wallet, Foy fled the flat, leaving the terrified victims inside.
Officers were called 50 minutes later and discovered one of Mr Bennett's bank cards had been recently used in a nearby shop to buy alcohol.
Foy, who had been released from prison the previous August after serving 28 months for raiding the Sheerness Co-op armed with a spanner, was arrested just before midnight and charged the following day.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Phil Pead said: "This was a frightening attack on the two victims who were specifically targeted by Foy.
"He inflicted serious injuries and was motivated by greed.
"I am pleased he has received a substantial sentence."
Foy was sent to prison for 10 years and four months but will serve the final half of it "on licence."
