A massive thunderstorm kept many residents awake last night.

Rumbles of thunder and flashes of lightning lit up the sky just after midnight.

Much of the storm centred over the Isle of Sheppey.

Matt Bromley captured several shots of lightning flashes from his home in Sheerness.

The storm was seen from Whitstable although Maidstone, on the other side of Detling Hill, appears to have been unaffected.
