Tributes are pouring in for a motorcyclist who died in an accident with a car.
David Simpson suffered severe injuries in the crash in Halfway Road, Halfway, on Thursday morning.
It happened outside Stonnes Family Centre and involved the 64-year-old’s black Suzuki bike and a silver Ford Fiesta.
Speaking yesterday, Mr Simpson’s family paid tribute, saying the loss had “devastated” them.
His sister-in-law Charlotte Simpson spoke on behalf of Mr Simpson’s older brother Keith, who she said was too upset to comment on his death.
She said: “We’re in a state of shock. Keith is utterly devastated – he and David were incredibly close.”
Mr Simpson, who lived in St Agnes Gardens, Sheerness, was born and raised on the Island, attending Jefferson Road School, Sheerness, which closed a number of years ago.
He was the youngest of four brothers, Alan and Raymond, who have both passed away, and Keith.
A neighbour also paid tribute, describing him as neighbourly and gentlemanly.
The family have yet to finalise funeral arrangements, but have said they will make an announcement when details are confirmed.
Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene of the accident and the road was closed in both directions for five hours.
The Kent Air Ambulance also attended, landing in a nearby field and leaving the area just after 11am.
A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving shortly afterwards.
He has since been bailed until January 13 pending further inquiries.
