Motorists went to the aid of people involved in a crash just after the Sheppey Crossing this evening.
The accident happened just after 6.30pm, when a car towing a high-sided trailer overturned, blocking the Sheppey-bound carriageway between the crossing and Cowstead corner.
Motorists at the front of the queue left their cars and walked down to help the driver.
Police said no-one is believed to have been injured.
A police spokesman said: "We were called at 6.33pm to reports that a car carrying a trailer had overturned on the A249 in the Sheppey bound carriageway.
"No injuries have been reported and it is believed that no other vehicles were involved."
"It is also reported that following the collision a large amount of paper has been shed on to the carriageway. Work is underway to clear the scene but there are currently significant delays."
The crossing remains closed Sheppey-bound with traffic traffic diverted across the Kingsferry Bridge.
