A husband has shared pictures from a crash after an uninsured driver fled the scene.
Samantha Gilbert was driving along Minster Road on the Isle of Sheppey on Friday night when her car was struck by a silver Mercedes.
Her husband Rich Street says the mystery driver initially sped off, but returned to the scene after he was followed by a passing cyclist.
He said: "He came from the opposite direction at speed and initially didn’t stop. Fortunately there are still so many good people around and someone on a bicycle gave chase and eventually the man pulled over.
"The other driver did pull over and pulled into Porters Close the little cul-de-sac just before Barton Hill on the right-hand side.
"The man then came to the scene, I assume with a little bit of conscience, before saying he would wait in his car for the police to arrive."
Mr Street says another car arrived and the Mercedes driver moved some items into the car before it drove off with him inside.
His wife Samantha was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital from the scene, Mr Street said: "We have been so lucky, Sam did have to have CT scans and was immobilised for over seven hours once we got to Medway, despite seeming fine and well at the scene.
"She is back home, just very stiff and sore, and we are so lucky that she had just dropped one of the girls off so didn’t have any of our girls in the car.
"Thank you so much to the wonderful people who were at the scene, who followed the man, who looked after the girls and have supported us over the last 16 hours or so.
"This could so easily have been much much worse, and could have happened to anyone! We all pay our insurances, why shouldn’t others?"
A Kent Police spokesman said: "We were called to a two-vehicle collision in Minster Road, Sheerness at around 5.30pm on Friday.
"Officers attended the scene where one person reported injuries and was taken to hospital by the South East Coast Ambulance Service. The driver of the second vehicle was not present when police arrived and enquiries remain ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the incident."
