THE devastated partner of a man crushed to death under the car he was working on has told how she and a neighbour tried to save him.
Shane Baverstock, 35, known as Sean, died when his maroon coloured H-registered Ford Escort toppled off two jacks while he was underneath trying to repair the exhaust.
Mr Baverstock was outside the family's mobile home at The Horseshoe Caravan Park, at Minster, near Sheerness.
His partner, Ellie Johnson, 26, said: "I was in the mobile home and I called out to see if he wanted a cup of tea but there was no answer so I went over to him and saw he was stuck under the car.
"I ran over to my neighbour Ken Stickens who lifted up the car while I pulled him out but I could tell it was very bad.
"Ambulances and the fire brigade were quickly on the scene - and the air ambulance landed on the nearby field. They all did their best to help try to resuscitate him but it was no use. I would publicly like to praise all the emergency services though for doing what they could."
Mr Baverstock was taken by air ambulance to Maidstone Hospital but was pronounced dead.
Ms Johnson added: "Sean was a real family man and was a great stepdad for my nine-year-old daughter Toni. He would do anything for anyone."
