A concerned mother has issued a warning after her 11-year-old daughter was approached by a man as she left school.
The Oasis Academy pupil was walking home from the Sheerness site, on Marine Parade, at around 3.10pm yesterday (Thursday) when a man allegedly told the youngster and two of her friends to get in his car.
Her mother spoke out in the hope of preventing the same thing happening again.
The mum said: “The girls left school and was walking along Marine Parade towards the High Street when a man approached them.
“She said he opened the car door, turned the radio down and said to them ‘get in the car’.
“My daughter didn’t say anything and her friend said ‘let’s go this way’ and ran away. He drove off and the girls ran towards Alexander Road and took that direction to the High Street.”
The girl, who lives in Minster, described the man as 40-plus, with thinning grey hair, blue eyes and wearing a blue top.
She added that the car was silver and was possibly a Vauxhall Vectra.
The girl’s mother added: “The girls are safe and both the school and police have been informed.
“My daughter was worried about going to school this morning, but the school has been brilliant with dealing with the situation.
“Two staff members even came round to assure my daughter they won’t allow anything to happen to her.”
Police confirmed they are investigating a report of a man approaching pupils in the area and said inquiries were continuing.
