An artist has won a coveted award for the third year running.
Last month we reported how Sevina Yates, of Nelson Avenue, Minster, had entered two paintings into the wild places category of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation’s 2013 Wildlife Artist of the Year contest.
One of them, a glacial canvas which she called Jagged, has scooped her the £500 prize.
The 40-year-old was presented with her award by founder David Shepherd CBE and ex-England cricketer and wildlife lover, David Gower at a ceremony at London’s Mall Galleries last week .
The mum-of-three paints wildlife but her main love and inspiration is mountains.
Mr Shepherd said: “Once again Sevina’s painting stood out magnificently in the gallery. It was hard to ignore.”
Sevina said: “I was totally shocked when I heard my name called out.
“I have dreamed for a long time of painting professionally and this award has given me such a huge boost.
“It is a great accolade and to win against such inspirational works is a real honour.”
She says the money will go towards a bit of refurbishment work at her studio.
