A WOMAN driver is lucky to be alive after a tyre burst caused her car to smash into the central reservation of the Sheppey Crossing.

The force from the impact sent the Rover 75 spinning across the road into the concrete barrier at the opposite side.

Debris from the accident was strewn across the oncoming side of the bridge following the accident on Tuesday.

The woman was still in the vehicle in a distressed state when the emergency services arrived on the scene. Se was taken to hospital where she was treated for minor injuries to her arms and legs.

An ambulance technician, who took the woman driver to hospital, said: "She told me she thought she was going over the side and that her life flashed before her."
