AN ACTION group calling for a change in laws regarding occupational pensions has been formed by members of the workforce at Sheerness steel mill.
A cross-section of staff at the Allied Steel and Wire plant at Brielle Way, Sheerness, ultimately aim to take their campaign to the House of Commons.
Many workers will receive a fraction of what they were expecting, as the pension fund was wound up following ASW going into liquidation.
Spokesman Peter Holsten said they wanted to join other workers in the same position across the country to highlight their plight and prevent the same thing happening in the future.
He said: "We have consulted the best lawyers in the land. We are going to lobby MPs to try and get laws changed to protect people with occupational pensions, especially those on a final salary pension scheme."
Sheppey MP Derek Wyatt is expected to meet action group workers tomorrow (Wednesday)to discuss the issue.
