Would you be confident enough to gamble £450,000 on the Isle of Sheppey?

That's what two students who appeared on a live TV game show did - and they lost it.

Medical students from Manchester, Ellie and Laura, appeared live on The Million Pound Drop on Channel 4 on Saturday night.

The game show, hosted by Davina McCall, sees contestants start off with £1 million in cash.

After choosing a category, the contestants are given a question with four possible answers, each with its own trapdoor.

They then have a minute to put their money on their chosen answer.

The trapdoors will open on the three wrong answers and whatever money is on them will be lost.

If they are unsure of the answer, the money can be spread across the trapdoors.

The first category choice was Beauties or Pigs and the girls chose Beauties.

They were first given four answers - Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford and Kate Moss - followed by the question: Which of these models is youngest?

Ellie and Laura were almost completely sure and put £925,000 on Kate Moss, although just in case they put £25,000 on Linda Evangelista and £50,000 on Cindy Crawford.

Kate Moss was right and the pair went through with £925,000.

The next choice was British Isles or Gods and Goddesses.

The 22-year-olds were not sure but opted for British Isles - and their possible answers were Isle of Wight, Isle of Sheppey, Isle of Man and Isle of Skye.

The question followed: Which of these islands is furthest north?

Ellie and Laura ruled out Wight and Man straight away - but neither of them knew where Sheppey was, and even suggested it might be in the Outer Hebrides.

Eventually, they opted to put £450,000 on Sheppey and £475,000 on Skye.

After a tense wait, the money dropped from Sheppey but the trapdoor to Skye stayed shut and the girls still have the £475,000.

They will be back on the show on Friday at 10pm, where they still have six more questions to answer.
