September can’t come soon enough for boxer Dave Jones.
The Queenborough-based builder turned professional last week and will be making his debut at York Hall in London on September 6. It’s been a long time coming for the 33-year-old, who fought in the Army team for two years while serving with the Royal Engineers.
“I can’t wait for September and I am buzzing,” said the Ray Askew-trained, Invicta Gym heavyweight, who stands at 6ft 6in and weighs in at 18 stone.
“I’ll be making my professional debut at York Hall, which is somewhere I have always wanted to fight. When I heard it was there I was so happy.
“I am going to try and just go as far in the sport as I can and hope to keep winning. I’ll fight whoever is put in front of me.”
Jones was given approval to turn pro by the British Boxing Board of Control last Wednesday.
He added: “I’ve had plenty of experience of boxing and was doing it full-time in the Army. Since leaving the Army and being an amateur, I’ve had to travel long distances to fight and I’ve done OK.”
