Celebrations will be on hold if Sheppey Rugby Club secure promotion – there’s a cup final to win the next day.

Sheppey travel to old rivals Burgess Hill for a play-off match on Saturday (3pm), with an immediate return to London 3 South East at stake.

Then, on Sunday (noon), they meet Brockleians in the Kent Salver final at Cranbrook.

Coach Rob Dengate said: “Promotion is the priority but the Kent Salver is a nice way to finish off the season.

“The majority of players will play in both games so it’s important we have a professional approach, whatever happens in the play-off. It won’t be an easy task to hold off celebrating if we win but it’s up to the players to show how much they want success."

History favours the Kent 1 Islanders, having triumphed when the sides met in a promotion play-off four years ago.

Salver rivals Brockleians are chasing a double after securing promotion to Kent 1 and Dengate said: “They will be tough opposition. They’ll want to test themselves against a side who have hopefully been promoted from the league they’re going into.

“It’s a potential banana skin, but we’ll be odds-on favourites to win.”
