Gavin Tait may be fighting for the last time this weekend.

The 39-year-old says only a title shot will keep the Sheerness fighter prolonging a professional career that has lasted more than a decade.

Tait admits his aggressive stance in the ring and no-fear approach to fights has got others running scared, leaving him unlikely to be called upon by belt holders.

That could mean he bows out at the Camden Centre on Saturday against Lewis van Poetsch – an opponent three weights heavier – in what promises to be a tough clash for the Island crowd-pleaser.

Tait said: “I’m under no illusion that this is the end of my career now. I’m 39 and I’ve enjoyed every minute but there are a lot of factors involved and I have a demanding job.

“Unless something substantial is offered after this, then I will hang up my gloves. Hopefully, I’ve entertained a few people along the way but I think it’s time to call it a day.”

Tait held the Southern Area welterweight belt back in 2011 before giving it up due to work commitments.

He returned to the ring last July and has won his last three comeback fights.
