Luke Barber has been selected to represent the Kent Swimming Association in their annual match against Surrey Schools next month.

The Beachfield Swimming Squad member earned the call-up following a good performance at the finals of Kent Schools’ Swimming Association Primary School Gala.

Barber, swimming 50m backstroke, attended the event at the Gillingham’s Black Lion Leisure Centre and finished with a personal best of 41.98, coming third overall.

It was enough to earn him a swim for Kent, which takes place on May 8 at Sevenoaks Leisure Centre.

If successful he could get an invite to swim in the National Championships for Primary Schools in Sheffield in June.

Also swimming at the Primary School Gala was Tierney Gudgeon, in the 50m breaststroke.

She swam a personal best of 48.80 but it wasn’t enough to progress further as only the top three went through.

Beachfield pair Jessica Coates and Philip Williams were also in action, putting in strong performances in their individual events and relay team.
