Sheppey singer Alex-Nicole Jamieson has won the Factor EsseX talent show.
The 19-year-old, from Thistle Hill, Minster, wowed the judges with her performance of the Little Mix song Cannonball, which the all-girl group sang as their winners’ single after triumphing in the X Factor on TV.
On Monday, the former Sittingbourne Community College pupil said: “I must say after waking up this morning I can’t believe I won.
“I’m still in shock. But I would like to thank everyone who voted for me and supported me.”
Every 100 Facebook votes gained each candidate a bonus point on the night of the final.
Alex-Nicole appeared on stage at the Fiction Romford nightclub in a silver mini-dress with knee-high boots and her distinctive long hair last Sunday.
Judges said she gave a controlled performance with “exceptional delivery” which connected with the audience and described her as “unbelievable”.
Proud mum Nicola, who works at the Oasis Academy at Minster, said: “She has lots of exciting things coming in the pipeline and will be releasing her own single in the UK in early 2018. It has been a fantastic experience.”
All finalists have recorded a version of George Michael’s Last Christmas in aid of the British Heart Foundation, which was released immediately after the show.
Alex-Nicole has also auditioned for The Voice and X Factor and had a two-year stint with Britain’s Got Talent five-girl band SweetChix before going solo.
She has been singing since she could talk, starting with nursery rhymes and then songs from Disney movies. She said: “I used to sit on the sofa and get my gran to introduce me as Christina Aguilera.”
Dad Eddie, who runs his own damp-proofing business, usually acts as chauffeur.
The singer now attends the D&B Academy of Performing Arts in Bromley, which boasts Marvin Humes of pop group JLS and X Factor winner Matt Terry among its past students. She also records at Sittingbourne’s Big Jam Studios.
