Sheerness East finally gained their first league point of the season in the Vandanel Kent County League Premier Division at Potyns Field on Saturday.

Dave Down’s side were twice in front, before conceding an 85th minute penalty after Dale Bryant was sent off for handball. Goalkeeper Richard Higgin saved Tony Read’s first effort but was beaten by the rebound.

East took the lead after 16 minutes as Paul Colenutt stepped up to fire home but the scores were level at the break when Stuart West had a simple tap-in.

Snodland regained the lead four minutes after the restart, Alan Bagshall heading home, before Down sent on Graham Andrews and Darren Brown in a double-switch, with the former making a real difference.

He scored the second after 65 minutes but needed treatment after colliding with a post while heading home. He recovered to put East back in front five minutes later after the Snodland keeper spilled Colenutt’s 20-yard effort.

Read’s penalty, however, denied them a long overdue first league win.

East are away to Bly Spartans in the league on Saturday (2pm).

Sheerness East: Higgin, O’Neil (Brown 63mins), Wolsey (J. Baylis snr 75mins), Williams, J. Baylis jnr, Bryant, Martin, Baylis, Sheather (Andrews 55), Holland, Colenutt.
