Sheppey head coach Frank Davis criticised the referee following his side’s defeat at Old Gravesendians on Saturday.
He sin-binned three Sheppey players during the Kent 1 clash at the Fleetway Sports Ground.
“I was disappointed with the referee,” said Davis. “He was inconsistent.
“I’m not saying we would have won the game if the referee had been different but he made the game unenjoyable for both sides. He should be back officiating in the Bill Beaumont era.
“I’ve put in a complaint to the referees’ society about him because when the referee doesn’t add anything to the players’ enjoyment of the game, then there’s no point him being out there.”
In a game that was played in a good spirit, Old Gravesendians took a 12-0 advantage into the break and extended their lead to 26-0 before Brad Box scored and then converted his own try for Sheppey’s only points of the match.
Old G’s then rounded off the scoring with an unconverted try late on, leaving Sheppey 10th in the table ahead of their derby match at home to Sittingbourne this weekend.
“I’m excited about the Sittingbourne game,” Davis added. “There’s nothing better than a derby game. It takes league positions out of the equation and it’ll be a good game for some of the youngsters.”
Peter King (suspended), Luke Barker (collarbone) and Nathan Gilson (dislocated shoulder) will all be missing on Saturday.
