Accident investigators closed the Maidstone-bound A249 Detling Hill from the Stockbury roundabout after a car overturned earlier today.

Police were called at 11.13am after the accident near the Stockbury Roundabout.

One man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A road closure was in place while debris was cleared and repairs to the central reservation were carried out.

Craig Cooper, who was stuck in the traffic for around an hour, said: "It looked like the car was coming down northbound and rolled over to the southbound lane.

"We cleared it at about 12pm, it looked really bad - there was a car on its roof completely mangled."

Drivers face further misery using the Sheppey-bound A249 as repairs to a burst water main have closed part of the road since Monday.

Motorists are instead being directed off the road via Sheppey Way, with the diversion expected to stay in place for several more days.
