LUCKY ESCAPE: Jenny Williams with children Lucy and Jamie

A MOTHER and her two children were terrified when an air gun pellet smashed through her car window as she was driving.

The passenger side window of her Mini shattered and the glass landed on her son but fortunately he was not injured.

The incident happened in Vicarage Road, Milton Regis, Sittingbourne, as Jenny Williams, 37, of Teal Way, Iwade, was driving to the town's library.

She had just picked up her children, Jamie, five, and Lucy, six, from Bobbing Village School.

She said: "I was driving quite slowly along Vicarage Road when the side window suddenly went pop and the glass shattered everywhere. It even went into my son's trousers because he was in the passenger seat.

"I managed to stop the car safely and we noticed an air gun pellet among the glass so I dialled 999 immediately to let the police know."

The pellet came from houses near the Rapid Plant and Tool hire centre. Mrs Williams added: "I certainly won't drive along Vicarage Road again."

Swale police spokesman Sally Smith said: "Shooting pellets or throwing stones at moving cars is an extremely dangerous act and could result in someone being seriously hurt or even killed. To some, this may seem like a few minutes of fun, but the consequences of their actions could result in someone being hurt and their arrest.

"I would urge the person responsible to think carefully about how they would feel if it were themselves, or a family member travelling in a car targeted this way."

The incident occurred at about 3.30pm on Monday. Anyone with information that might assist police enquiries is asked to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
