Sittingbourne and Murston hit by major power outage

Large parts of Murston and Sittingbourne were left without power after a fault on an underground cable earlier today.

UK Power Networks engineers were sent in to reconnect 698 affected properties.

A spokesman said the outage was reported at 10.27am and caused problems in the general Church Road area.

He said: "We are sorry for any inconvenience causes. Our engineers worked to reconnect supplies as swiftly as possible."

It is understood that some homes on the Great East Hall estate were still having problems at 2.30pm.

The power cut comes less than a day after a lorry caused congestion chaos after becoming trapped in traffic-calming "pinch points" in Church Road.

Police and PCSOs were called in to manage traffic yesterday afternoon as the road is a major cut-through between the Eurolink industrial estate and the A2.
