Police have arrested two men following a huge police response involving the force's helicopter.
Officers descended on Upchurch yesterday afternoon, with witnesses reporting seeing several patrol cars, dog units and firearms teams.
Police have now revealed details on the incident.
The hunt began after a vehicle failed to stop on the coast-bound carriageway of the A2 near Gravesend yesterday.
The helicopter was scrambled to help with the search and the vehicle was found in the Rainham area at about 2pm.
The two men, an 18-year-old from Wolverhampton and a 26-year-old from Upchurch, were later arrested on suspicion of theft, burglary and dangerous driving.
Both are being held in police custody.
There were reports Oak Lane in neighbouring Upchurch was temporarily closed with one resident on the street, who did not want to be named, saying police were “everywhere”.
A helicopter was seen flying low over the village.
Armed police, dog units and unmarked police cars were also reportedly seen going along Mierscourt Road, Rainham, towards High Street with their lights flashing.
