SEVERAL roads around central Sittingbourne will be closed tomorrow (January 29)during a protest march by local people over the proposed use of the Coniston Hotel as an asylum seekers’ centre.
The rolling closures will start at 10am and finish by 2pm, according to Swale Borough Council.
The affected roads will be the High Street from its Central Avenue junction to the West Street junction; West Street and the A2 London Road from Adelaide Drive junction to the West Street junction.
The closures will operate on a rolling closing and reopening basis as the march passes appropriate roads under the direction of police officers.
The police may close London Road from its junction with Adelaide Drive to Borden Lane. All A2 traffic will be diverted along Adelaide Drive and Borden Lane.
To ease traffic congestion on this diversion route, the A2 will be closed at Key Street roundabout for east-bound traffic.
The A2 east-bound traffic will be diverted along Sheppey Way, B2006 Staplehurst Link Road, St Paul’s Street, Mill Way and Eurolink Way.
