Shoppers are expected to flock to a new town centre shop in the former Woolworths store in the High Street.

UK recession busting giant, 99p Stores, opens at 9am on Friday, creating more than 30 jobs.

Early bird bargain hunters can snap-up a 17-piece tea set for 99p.

It will be the 104th 99p store.

Promoter Graham Barnes said: “We are coming to Sittingbourne following the incredible popularity of a new Ashford store which opened last month.”

The new store offers 4,000 different 99p items, from cosmetics to cooking utensils, fashion and gifts.

Mr Barnes added: “We offer the public what Woolworths failed to do for so many years and that is to give great value products.

“Woolworths started out as a six pence shop with everything at one price we are the 21st century version of this.

“When Woolworths was set up it connected with the British public and we believe we are now doing this.”

The 99p Stores brand was founded in 2001 in Holloway, North London.

The company has targeted around 30 former Woolworths sites nationwide and has plans to move into another 30 by the end of the year.

Sittingbourne Woolworths closed in January and 26 full and part-time staff members lost their jobs.
