A family effort raised more than £3,500 for an armed forces charity.

Geoff Drury, 71, joined his son, David, 46, and granddaughter, Katie, 18, to take part in a cycle ride for Help for Heroes.

They rode a 30-mile route from London to Old Windsor, before meeting 1,000 cyclists from all over the country for the grand finale of Hero Ride 2015, which included a fun day at Windsor racecourse.

David, who spent 22 years in the RAF, also completed the charity’s Big Battlefield Ride from Paris to London.

Mr Drury, of Lammas Drive, Milton Regis, who used to run Sittingbourne Air Training Corps, said: “I wanted to take part after seeing the disabled guys cycling. It was really humbling. The camaraderie of it all was great.”

He thanked people who donated at collections at Morrisons and the Jenny Wren pub in Sittingbourne, adding: “We could not have done it without people’s support.”
